Week Sixteen: Squad Goals

June 4, 2017

Can you all believe we’re sixteen weeks in to this journey already? WHAAATTT?! Crazy I know. I had a little aneurism when I noticed that I’m under 100 days on my countdown! Yikes! Thank you all so much for sticking with me and supporting me thus far, you have no idea how much it means to me. Please check back soon for some new developments with my site! I’m starting to take some steps forward with my blog and instagram accounts so don’t be a stranger!

Anywho, I wanted to talk a bit about the importance of community when pursuing your dream. IT’S SO IMPORTANT! Surrounding yourself with like minded people who are passionate about what you are passionate about will only help to fuel your fire. There are many ways to build a community around yourself but here a couple suggestions from me.

First, talk about your project. How are people supposed to support you if you don’t talk about it? They won’t even know you need support! I know some of you may be going, well duh, but it’s harder than it sounds. Talking about your dreams to your friends, family, and coworkers can be really difficult. You can feel vulnerable in doing so but you know what it does make you? Accountable. Even if your random coworker asks you once every three months how your project is going it’s gonna kick you into gear. So talk about it. Often. To everyone. Do it.

Second, we are living in a social media world. I hate it. I hate social media most of the time BUT I found that I LOOOVVEEEE bookstragramming. It’s specifically catered to my passion and there are THOUSANDS of other people that love gushing about books on there! I promise you can find other people that love to gush about whatever it is you love whether it be books, cars, nature, cats or whatever. Start following those people. Seeing their posts everyday will inspire you. Often you’ll find that those communities are super POSITIVE and SUPPORTIVE to all those who join. That makes it even better. So try it out. There are a ton of different social media outlets so you don’t have to use instagram if you don’t want to. Find the one that fits you.

Third, go out and meet real people in your area by participating in an event. You guys, there are TONS of events happening every day for nerdo’s just like us! I am personally attending a writer’s workshop later this month and I’m so excited about it (if a bit nervous!) And what’s more, I mentioned my new endeavor to a friend of mine the other day and she was like “um, you know I used to write?” And I was like, “yeah….but I didn’t think you would be interested…” and then I felt stupid for making assumptions because she was interested. And now I just added another friend to my writing squad.

In closing, immerse yourself in your passion because that is what’s going to keep the fire burning. The longer you are out of it and not sharing the love with others the dimmer your fire will become. Don’t let it be snuffed out.

Until next time, here’s an inspirational quote to get you through:

"Surround yourself with people who have dreams, desire, and ambition; they'll help you push for, and realize your own."
